iOS 10.1 and macOS 10.12.1 resolve a number of vulnerabilities which could previously be taken advantage of if a malicious actor had embedded code into JPG or PDF files.  The malicious code could be used for remote code execution and extracting data from the infected device.

The recommendation from Apple is to update your device when updates are available to protect iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple TV and Apple Watch.
