Microsoft has announced it will end its extended support for Windows 7 on 14 January 2020. This is hardly surprising since Windows 7 launched more than a decade ago.

So, what exactly does this mean for business that still run Windows 7?

If you haven’t already, start thinking about upgrading to Windows 10. In fact, don’t just think about, start making a move now.

Microsoft ended mainstream support for Windows 7 way back in January 2015, but extended its support to give organisation more time to migrate.

But that time is running out and as from 14 January 2020, Microsoft will no longer provide security updates, technical support or software updates for PCs running Windows 7.

What does that mean?

There is nothing preventing you from running Windows 7 after the support has ended, your PC will still work as expected - it will continue to start and run.

However, without the security updates from Microsoft, it will become more vulnerable to security risks and viruses.

To avoid security risks and viruses, we recommend you upgrade to Windows 10 now. Not only will you run a fully supported operating system, but Windows 10 also offers advanced security, compatibility tools and productivity features.

It's also an opportunity to explore the potential newer technology such as Microsoft 365 offers your business.

So, what now?

Many organisations are realising they need to migrate their users over to Windows 10 and have already started the upgrade process. This does involve training users in Windows 10.
