Why study this course

This advanced-level SharePoint course is focused on document governance and information protection within Microsoft 365 environments. Through practical, instructor-led training, participants will develop a deeper understanding of how to implement structured, secure, and compliant document management across their SharePoint sites.

You’ll learn how to improve site security, streamline document classification, and ensure compliance through retention and sensitivity policies. This includes applying metadata and taxonomy for better discoverability, using content types for consistency, and setting up document retention and sensitivity labels to control access and lifecycles. You'll also be introduced to Microsoft 365 compliance tools such as Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and eDiscovery.

By the end of the course, you’ll be equipped to enhance document governance in your organisation, helping ensure content is well-organised, protected, and compliant.

Note: Some features demonstrated in this course require administrator access. While you may not have this access currently, understanding these tools is beneficial for site managers and power users. You can liaise with your SharePoint administrator to request access where appropriate.

For our introductory course, see SharePoint Beginner (Site User). For our intermediate course, see SharePoint Intermediate (Site Owner).
