Why study this course

As competition for business growth intensifies and technology advances at a rapid rate, maintaining an edge is becoming more and more of a challenge. Many businesses are seeking the next thing that will increase their ability to be competitive and diversity of thinking is a relatively untapped and valuable resource.

Studies have shown that diverse teams reliably outperform teams of experts in the speed and creativity of problem solving and critical thinking, therefore a diverse workforce creates strategic advantage for businesses.

Participants will learn about the conundrum of deep-rooted biological mechanisms, which skew our objective decision making ability and bias our choices. This session explores the biases and decisions we make which are below our consciousness. We will unpack where these subconscious preferences impair our decision-making and ability to succeed.

This session gives an overview of the concept of Cognitive Framing and delves into the biology of the brain. We will explore how cognitive heuristics were formed and how these mental shortcuts can turn into unconscious biases. We explore how unconscious bias limits our overall success and how to recognise and mitigate biases affecting our decision-making.

Participants will learn how to use tools such as implementation intentions and have an opportunity to practice these in a safe environment. This will allow participants to embed the learning as they go and continue to apply it in the workplace.

We share a structure for decision-making that enables us to make significant decisions more objectively and discuss aspects of decision making across cultures. This flows on to our topics of Diversity. Participants will walk away with an understanding of how to support a culture of diversity and how this increases organisational success.

This course appeals to aspiring, emerging and current leaders as well as business owners, salespeople, volunteers and teammates. There is an optional qualification upgrade available.

This course is often delivered in two half-days instead of one full day.
